Melanie Groger (Monstaz)

Melanie was born in 1980 in beautiful Spreewald south of Berlin. She discovered her passion for drawing when she was very young. After finishing high school she decided to take part in a formation at the Animation School Hamburg where she learned to combine Illustration with Classical Animated Cartoon according to the tradition of the old cartoon studios.

At present Melanie mainly works digitally and combines her illustrations with background photos which she takes while traveling or during excursions. At times she leaves her digitizer tablet behind in order to do some handicraft work and to create one of a kinds from different fabrics and materials.

Through numerous projects for different animation studios in Germany and Canada Melanie could deepen her drawing talent and acquire new working techniques for her animations. Presently she works as a freelance illustrator and animator in Hamburg. Her clients are Gruner+Jahr, Duden's publishing house and Sesame Street for instance.

With her MONSTAZ Melanie created her own series of little green lovable characters which slowly but surely conquer the living spaces of their fans. Everything we adults usually take for granted they marvelously lead ad absurdum. That's what makes them so special. And while at it they are having a ripping good time about it.
